A P-plate driver has been charged after he was detected allegedly travelling at more than 200km/h in Sydney’s south-west overnight.
Just after midnight (Saturday 27 February 2021), officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting speed enforcement duties on the M5 Motorway at Milperra, when a black Holden Commodore was detected travelling at 207km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Shortly after, the Commodore exited the M5 on Belmore Road, Riverwood, before mounting a median strip, hitting the rear of a Toyota Camry and continuing through a fence and into a park.
The driver, a 17-year-old boy, and his three passengers – aged 15, 17 and 24 – were not injured. No one in the Camry was injured.
The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to Campsie Police Station, where he was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, P1 driver exceed speed (more than 45km/h), P1 driver under 25 years drive at night with more than one passenger under 21 years, and negligent driving.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday 13 April 2021.
His licence has been suspended.
