Treasurer Tim Pallas must rule outintroducing new or increased taxes in the upcoming State Budget, with Victoria set to receive an additional $3.7 billion in GST revenue in 2024-25.

The Commonwealth Grants Commission has today increased Victoria’s GST payments from $18.5 billion in 2023-24 to $22.2 billion for 2024-25.

With Victorians enduring a cost-of-living crisis, the Liberals and Nationals again call on Labor to rule out introducing new or increased taxes in the State Budget to be delivered on7 May.

Shadow Treasurer, Brad Rowswell, said: “Treasurer Tim Pallas must stop making excuses and provide Victorians with the certainty they need by ruling out raising taxes in the upcoming State Budget.

“Labor should not be making a bad situation worse by continuing to raise taxes on Victorians in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis.

“With 53 new or increased taxes introduced since Labor came to office almost a decade ago and debt set to reach $177.8 billion by June 2027, Victorians are paying the price for Labor’s mismanagement.”
