Palmer must come clean on cuts to support for students with disability

Last month, Minister Palmer’s office told Tasmanians there was “no proposal” to cut the Inclusive Practice Team, which helps students with disability and complex learning needs get the most out of school.

Days later, staff were told four of the team’s 16 jobs would be cut.

Workers knew, families knew, and I find it impossible to believe the Minister and her office didn’t know as well.

If Minister Palmer can’t tell the truth about these jobs , why should anyone trust her about the other $228 million worth of cuts to Tasmanian schools?

Today I’m calling on Minister Palmer to:

  • Admit her office’s statement was wrong.
  • Explain why she tried to mislead Tasmanians about the cuts.
  • Reveal exactly when she knew about the cuts.
  • Guarantee that no student will lose support.

Children with disability and their families shouldn’t pay the price for 13 years of Liberal waste. But under Premier Rockliff and Eric Abetz, they are.
