“The rule of law has been dead on arrival at Victorian construction sites for more than a decade.
“Since 2024, brave journalists have forced the government to pay attention to a sprawling web of lawbreaking and menace that wrecks lives and costs taxpayers billions.
“The scope of the Royal Commission merely meets the vast scale of construction wrongdoing that has been allowed to occur under this government.
“The Commission was urgently needed two years ago.
“If this is a government of integrity, it will punt next week’s unnecessary work-from-home debate and move today’s rule-of-law announcements to the very top of the parliamentary agenda.
“Let’s prioritise the things that matter to Victorians. Parliament must act to uncover the rotten apples as soon as possible. Only then can we say we are protecting the vast majority of law-abiding organisations and workers that invest in and build the best parts of Victoria’s cities,” he said.
