Parliament to focus on delivering legislative agenda

Michael Ferguson,Leader of the House

The Hodgman Liberal Government will continue to deliver on our strong plan to make Tasmanians’ lives better throughout this year in Parliament.

On Tuesday, the Premier will outline a strong 2019 agenda for strategic economic growth across all regions of the state, ensuring all Tasmanians benefit and the people who most need Government services have access to them.

A key part of our agenda for the year will be continuing to deliver our legislative priorities in the Parliament. Last year was the most productive Parliamentary election year in almost two decades, and we expect this to continue in 2019.

In the first week back, we will be introducing key legislation to support our agenda, including anti-bullying legislation, legislation to provide for our nation-leading presumptive PTSD provisions for our employees, and the first tranche of electoral law reform.

This year will also see the continuation of our strong legislative agenda to keep Tasmanians safe, including legislation to better protect the community through reform of Dangerous Criminal Declarations, progressing one-punch laws, legislating the next stage of the war on Ice, and the Workplace (Protection from Protesters) Amendment Bill.

We are also determined to get our minimum 4 years jail for child sex offenders legislation passed despite being blocked by Labor in the Legislative Council previously.

In contrast to our Plan to take Tasmania to the next level, we’re expecting more silly stunts, game-playing and personal attacks from the Labor-Green alliance – which is now more closely tied together than ever before.
