The Rockliff Liberal Government has strengthened the future of our early education and childcare system with the signing of a new industry skills Compact with the Early Childhood Australia Tasmania Branch.
The Early Childhood Education and Care Industry Skills Compact signifies a partnership with mutual responsibilities focussed on skills, training and workforce development for the sector.
Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Development, Felix Ellis, said the Compact and associated Priority Action Plan signalled the industry’s commitment to partner with the government for a stronger future.
“Our economy needs a workforce that supports productivity and employment growth across our key industry sectors, and access to early education and care services underpins thriving economies,” Minister Ellis said.
“These workers are doing an incredible job to support young Tasmanians by giving them the best possible foundation and we know that workforce participation and productivity improves with access to suitable childcare.
“Investment in the early childhood sector is an investment in our children, in employment and importantly in underpinning workforce participation for caregivers across all sectors of the economy.
“Our vision will ensure we have a high-quality, job-focused, and accessible training and workforce development system.
“The people that work in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector in Tasmania support nearly 24,000 children from more than 16,000 families to access approved education and care services.
“We are committed to working with industry, which is full of highly qualified and skilled people providing outstanding early learning and care so our children can thrive and learn.”
Minister Ellis said the Early Childhood Education and Care industry’s commitment to the Industry Skills Compact signals its intention to invest its own future and the future of Tasmanian families by working alongside government to create a clear path for support and growth.
