Pedestrian struck in Port Melbourne collision

A driver has failed to stay at the scene of a collision after the car he was driving struck a pedestrian in Port Melbourne last night.

Investigators have been told a silver vehicle travelling northeast on Swallow Street struck a pedestrian about 7.50pm.

The 52-year-old pedestrian was reaching into the rear driver’s side seat of his parked grey Kia Sport when he was struck.

The driver stopped briefly and spoke to the Greenvale man before leaving the scene.

A passer-by stopped and assisted the man, who had sustained an injured hip, and called an ambulance.

The Greenvale man was transported to hospital for treatment.

The vehicle, a silver sedan, possibly a Volkswagen, will have damage to the passenger’s side mirror and front panel.

The driver is perceived to be Caucasian, aged in his 40s to 50s and was possibly wearing white sneakers.
