People at heart of community development

Barossa Council

The Barossa Council is exploring new and innovative opportunities to foster community development, in partnership with members of the community.

Council has endorsed a Community Development Strategy that re-positions how we identify and deliver on community service priorities.

Mayor Bim Lange said the new community development model is premised on working with people, rather than for them.

Community development is a way of working with people that encourages participation and inclusion in the community.

“Community development builds the capacity of community members to come together and create stronger and more resilient local communities.”

Council has approved a range of dedicated roles including a Manager Community Wellbeing and Community Development Officers, who will work closely with local community service providers and stakeholders to ensure resources are directed where they’re needed most.

“Our next steps are to develop an implementation plan and action plan, with a view to embedding this new model later this year,” Mayor Lange said.
