A community-led revitalisation of Wendouree’s Pioneer Park will be officially unveiled tomorrow.
Over the past 18 months, the following works have been undertaken at the McKenzie Drive park through the City of Ballarat’s Engaging Communities program:
- the installation of two recycled shelters (from Alfred Deakin Place), four bench seats, accessible picnic sets, a drinking fountain, and solar/wind-powered lighting;
- the removal of old car park fencing, the installation of new post and rail fencing around the car park, and improvements to the fence bordering Ring Road/McKenzie Drive; and
- car park resealing.
The Engaging Communities program has been in operation since 2013, with 12 suburbs having participated in the initiative to date
It builds capacity in local communities and empowers residents to decide on the allocation of funds to deliver local priorities.
In November 2017, Council committed $200,000 to the Wendouree community over three years through the program.
The Wendouree Partnership Group has worked closely with Council to determine the suburb’s priority projects, including the park facelift.
The community celebration will be held at Pioneer Park on Thursday 26 September at 4pm.
