Pet adoption profile – when Keely met Sami

Kempsey Shire Council

During Local Government Week 2023 our team is sharing their pet adoption stories to inspire you to take the lead and consider adopting your next pet.

Keely our Community Projects Officer got the best Christmas gift anyone could ask for when she adopted Sami her wheaten Border Collie in 2021 from the Kempsey Shire Pound.

A huge advocate of adopting a pet from the pound Keely says, “Working at Council, particularly in Customer Service and on the daily fielding Ranger requests, it gave me valuable insight into adopting from the Pound, and the hard work that our Rangers put in to make sure that all animals go to a loving home.”

Always on the lookout for the right adopted pet to pop up, Keely found Sami at the perfect time post COVID lockdowns when she was living at home alone. Keely knew right away that “she was her girl!” after meeting Sami in the flesh and seeing how beautiful she was.

When asked what she loves most about her adopted pet Sami Keely replied “She has the sweetest nature, loves a cuddle and a comfy spot on the lounge. She also quite vocal, will have a chat with you and is so intrigued by music (will often cry or sing along). A typical Border Collie Sami is full of energy and ball obsessed!”

Keely’s advice to someone considering pet adoption:

“Express your interest, it’s always a good idea to meet the dog first, especially if you have other pets, to see if they are compatible then go for it! It could just be the best thing you’ve ever said yes to!”

Thank you so much Keely for sharing your pet adoption story of adoption story with us.
