Pinjar Manslaughter Charge

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a 38-year-old Banksia Grove man in relation to the death of 23-year-old Heathridge man Jack KINNEEN in Pinjar on Thursday 22 September 2022.

About 1:45am, St John WA advised WA Police Force they were responding to an incident involving an explosion which left a man seriously injured.

Mr Kinneen had been four-wheel-driving with friends, when about 1:30am they encountered a fire near a bush track. As Mr Kinneen approached the fire an explosion occurred. St John WA personnel attended, however despite efforts to provide emergency first aid to Mr Kinneen he died at the scene.

It will be alleged the fire had been deliberately lit by the 38-year-old man in a way to cause an explosion, and that he left the area as Mr Kinneen and his friends approached the fire.

The 38-year-old man and the group of friends are not known to each other.

Yesterday, Tuesday 11 October 2022, the 38-year-old man was arrested in Banksia Grove and he has since been charged with Manslaughter. He was refused bail and is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 12 October 2022.
