The City of Casey is aware there is strong community interest in a planning permit application for a proposed place of worship, known as the BAPS Hindu Mahā-Mandir, along Western Port Highway in Cranbourne South.
The application (PA2604511) has been lodged with the Victorian Government’s Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) through the Development Facilitation Program. DTP is responsible for assessing the proposal and managing the public notice process, which means Council is not the decision maker for this application.
The application is now on public exhibition on the DTP website, and the community can make submissions directly to the DTP.
What is Council’s role?
Council is not responsible for deciding whether this planning permit application is approved or refused.
Council officers will formally review the proposal and provide a submission to DTP on matters within Council’s role. This will include planning policy, traffic, infrastructure, environmental considerations and local impacts.
Council’s submission will be prepared by our statutory planning team and provided to DTP for consideration as part of its assessment.
