The Crisafulli Government is planning the next stage of safety improvements on the Mount Lindesay Highway, with concept designs and business cases progressing for future upgrades between Jimboomba and Beaudesert.
The planning follows the successful completion of the Johanna Street to South Street duplication project through Jimboomba, with the focus now turning to the next priority sections of the highway.
Throughout their decade of decline, the former State Labor Government didn’t deliver the roads and infrastructure to support a growing population and failed to adequately invest in upgrades on major roads like the Mount Lindesay Highway.
The Crisafulli Government is building Queensland’s future and delivering the upgrades to keep Queenslanders moving.
The package of proposed improvements spans approximately 20 kilometres and aims to improve safety, reduce the risk of serious crashes and support growing communities in the Scenic Rim and Logan regions.
Proposed upgrades include safety and capacity improvements between South Street and Cedar Vale Road, wide centreline treatments at Veresdale to reduce the risk of head-on crashes, longer climbing and overtaking lanes between Cedar Vale and Woodhill, and new dedicated right-turn treatments at key intersections between Woodhill and Gleneagle.
Concept designs and business cases currently being developed will be considered for future funding by the Australian and Queensland Governments.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Mount Lindesay Highway was one of South East Queensland’s most important regional road corridors.
“The Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of planning the next phase of safety improvements on the Mount Lindesay Highway, building on the upgrades already delivered through Jimboomba,” Minister Mickelberg said.
“This corridor is critical for local families, freight operators, businesses and commuters, and we want to ensure it remains safe and reliable as these communities continue to grow.
“The proposed upgrades have been identified to improve safety, reduce the risk of serious crashes and provide a better driving experience for the thousands of motorists who use this highway every day.
“After years of population growth, it’s important we continue planning ahead and investing in the transport infrastructure communities need for the future.”
Member for Scenic Rim Jon Krause said the planning work was an important step towards delivering long-term safety improvements for local communities.
“The Mount Lindesay Highway is the major artery for the Scenic Rim, connecting residents to jobs, education, services and businesses across the region,” Mr Krause said.
“Locals know these sections of highway well and understand the importance of continued investment to improve safety and reliability.
“Labor left the cupboard bare and did nothing to meaningfully progress planning for these upgrades. The Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job so we can go to Canberra to seek future federal funding for these upgrades that will help make journeys safer and support the continued growth of our region.
“The Crisafulli Government is listening to local communities and planning for the future, rather than waiting for problems to become bigger and more costly to fix.”
