PolAir tracks car through Metro Adelaide, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a lengthy pursuit by the Police helicopter in the Metropolitan area this afternoon.

About 1.50pm Tuesday 14 January patrols spotted a white Subaru Outback around Main North Road Gepps Cross. Checks revealed the car was allegedly baring stolen number plates. Patrols attempted to pull the car over but it took off at speed away from them.

Patrols did not pursue the car but observed it head into the back streets of Enfield, they lost sight of the car around Sefton Park.

About 20 minutes later police spotted the car in the CBD on Gouger Street. Again police did not pursue the vehicle but radioed in its location until the police helicopter PolAir took over observations.

PolAir followed the vehicle for about an hour and a half as it travelled through Underdale, Allenby Gardens, Thebarton, Hilton and Keswick.

The car the travelled down South Road through Edwardstown before briefly stopping near the intersection of Edward Street and South Road where a female passenger allegedly got out of the vehicle. Patrols quickly located the 30-year-old woman and placed her under arrest.

The Subaru then travelled north on South Road, through Mile End South and onto James Congdon Drive before turning west onto Kintore Street where it collided with a member of the public’s car at the intersection of Dew Street, Thebarton.

The driver of the car, a 23-year-old man, allegedly ran from the car but was quickly chased down by patrols and arrested. The Subaru, suspected of having been stolen, was towed from the scene.

The man is expected to be charged with a number of offences and police are investigating the incident.
