Police appeal for information after unconfirmed report of Ballarat murder in 2016

Missing Persons Squad detectives are appealing for public information to corroborate a number of unconfirmed information reports suggesting that an unknown male was murdered in Ballarat in early 2016.

The anonymous reports, received over the last 24 months, suggest that an unknown male was murdered in the Ballarat region in early 2016, and his body disposed of by unknown means.

Despite countless enquiries, including a thorough search of both state and national missing person databases, investigators from the Missing Persons Squad have been unable to identify any person whose disappearance matches the information provided.

Investigators from the Missing Persons Squad are now seeking assistance from the public in an effort to determine if the information provided is valid.

Police are appealing for any information on persons from the region who have not been sighted or heard from since this time.

Victoria Police are also appealing for anyone who may have information about a possible murder in the Ballarat region in early 2016 to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or log onto www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

‘Though this is quite an unusual case, unfortunately, it is not unheard of for somebody to go missing and never be reported.

‘There can be varying reasons for this, but when information like this is received, it is our responsibility to ensure we investigate fully and do all we can to establish if there is any truth to the information.

‘For this reason, we’re asking anyone with any information on a possible murder in Ballarat in early 2016 to come forward and contact police.’
