Police are investigating after separate crashes in Hammondville

Police are investigating following two crashes at Hammondville in Sydney’s south west this morning.

About 3.15am (Monday 21 September 2020), emergency services were called to Heathcote Road, following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Officers from Liverpool Police Arear Command attended and found a semi-trailer had hit a power pole before veering into a nearby property and hitting a tree, trapping the driver.

The driver, a 67-year-old man, was freed with the assistance of Fire and Rescue NSW. He was subjected to a roadside breath test, returning a negative result before being taken to Liverpool Hospital as a precaution.

Heathcote road has since been reopened with inquiries continuing.

In a second incident, emergency services were called to the M5, just before 6.15am, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Police have been told three vehicles collided, causing one to overturn, trapping the driver and closing two of the eastbound lanes. They have since been freed with the assistance of Fire and Rescue NSW.

All lanes have since been reopened with extensive traffic delays still expected. Inquiries continue.
