A woman has died after a crash in the Snowy Mountains today.
About 4.30pm (Friday 2 October 2020), emergency services were called to the Snowy Mountains Highway, Cooma, following reports of a collision.
Officers attached to Monaro Police District attended and were told a black Commodore Station Wagon was travelling south when it collided with a north-travelling Kenworth T950 Tipper truck, with dog trailer in tow.
The Commodore was pushed into a gully and the front female passenger died at the scene.
The driver of the Commodore, a 67-year-old woman, was trapped for a short time before being released by the NSW State Emergency Service and Fire and Rescue NSW. She was airlifted to Canberra Hospital.
The driver of the truck, a 23-year-old man, was not injured. He was taken to Cooma Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established that will be examined by the Lake Illawarra Crash Investigation Unit to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident
A report will be prepared for the coroner and no further information is available at this time.
The Snowy Mountains Highway near Dry Plains Road remains closed to traffic in both directions. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and delay their trip as there are no suitable diversions available.
