Police are responding to fatal crash at Edinburgh, South Australia

A man has died after crashing a stolen car at Edinburgh last night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after a car hit a tree on West Avenue, Edinburgh just after 8.30pm on Friday 3 April.

The impact of the crash split the car in half.

Unfortunately, there was nothing that witnesses or paramedics could do for the driver, a 25-year-old Parafield Gardens man. He was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the black 1990 Toyota MR2.

An examination of the vehicle revealed it was displaying false plates and the vehicle was recorded as stolen from an Elizabeth Park address in February.

Major Crash investigators attended and examined the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

West Avenue was closed to all traffic but has since reopened.

The young man’s death brings the number of lives lost on South Australian roads to 33, compared to 31 at the same time last year.
