Police are responding to serious crash – Zeehan Highway, Tom Creek

A 46 year old Newnham man is in a serious condition at the Royal Hobart Hospital following a serious single motorbike crash on the Zeehan Highway.

Inspector Steven Jones said the crash happened at about 9:00 am near Tom Creek, located about twelve kilometres south-east of Zeehan.

“The man was riding his Harley Davidson towards Queenstown when he lost control on approach to a right-hand bend. He veered off the road and crashed into an embankment. The alarm was raised by another rider who was following and witnessed the crash.”

The man was flown by the Ambulance Tasmania Helicopter to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition. The Zeehan Highway was closed for several hours whilst investigations were conducted but reopened to all traffic at about 3pm.

“Our crash investigators have commenced their inquiries into the exact cause of the crash. Our thoughts are with the injured rider and his family.”
