Police arrest driver after pedestrian injured in crash in Marrickville

A driver has been arrested after a pedestrian was seriously injured following a crash at Marrickville today.

Just before 11.30am (Saturday 3 August 2019), emergency services were called to Petersham Road, Marrickville, after reports of a crash.

Police have been told, a red Holden Astra hit a parked car, struck a female pedestrian, and crashed into a parked utility, causing it to catch alight.

The male driver of the Holden ran off and was pursued for a short time by a witness before fleeing.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

The pedestrian, a 52-year-old woman, sustained serious leg injuries. She was treated and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.

Following inquiries, a 28-year-old man was arrested on a train at Belmore Railway Station. He was subjected to a roadside breath test, returning a positive result, and has been taken to Campsie Police Station.

Inquiries continue and officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
