Police arrest driver after southern suburbs pursuit, South Australia

A man has been arrested after a police used road spikes during a pursuit through Adelaide’s southern suburbs last night.

Just before 9.20pm on Wednesday 29 April, a police patrol attempted to stop a black Mitsubishi Verada sedan on South Road at Melrose Park but the driver allegedly refused continuing to travel south on South Road.

The black Mitsubishi was followed on South Road through St Marys and Darlington onto the Southern Expressway continuing over O’Halloran Hill.

The wanted car, turned off the Expressway at Sherriffs Road, where a patrol was waiting with road spikes, successfully puncturing all four tyres of the Mitsubishi.

The Mitsubishi continued south on South Road before patrols managed to box it in, bringing it to a stop near Panatalinga Road. The car crashed into the rear of a police car causing minor damage.

Arrested at 9.35pm the driver and only occupant of the car a 43-year-old Parafield Gardens man was arrested. He has been charged with a number of serious offences including, fail to obey direction, dangerous driving to escape police pursuit, endanger life, property damage, drive disqualified and having false number plates.

The man was refused bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.
