Police arrest man after attempting to set fire to a police vehicle in Ashfield

A man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to set fire to a police vehicle parked outside Ashfield Police Station.

About 8.45pm on Thursday 3 September 2020, officers from Burwood Police Area Command arrested a man after he poured petrol over a fully marked police vehicle and attempted to set it alight, before throwing objects at a second fully marked police vehicle.

Police confronted the 28-year-old man who became aggressive.

OC spray was used to control him before he was arrested and taken to Burwood Police Station.

The man was charged with damage property by fire (attempt), resist officer in execution of duty and malicious damage.

He was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Friday 4 September 2020).

A Police officer suffered minor injuries.
