Police arrest man after driving dangerously and evading police on Hobart’s eastern shore

A 30 year old man has been arrested after he allegedly evaded police, drove dangerously and was caught with a stolen motorbike on Hobart’s eastern shore on Thursday night.

About 8.30pm on Thursday, 9 January police detected a motorbike travelling at 180kms on the Bowen Bridge at Goodwood.

When police attempted to intercept the vehicle near Risdon Cove, the rider allegedly refused to stop and continued up the East Derwent Highway on the incorrect side of the road, against oncoming traffic.

The rider was reportedly driving in an extremely dangerous manner, narrowly missing a number oncoming vehicles.

After receiving information from the public, police located the man a short time later attempting to leave an address in Geilston Bay in a different vehicle.

The property was searched and a stolen Suzuki motorbike was found in the garage.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw, or has dash cam footage of, a Suzuki GSXR600 motorbike (registration number PY771) travelling on the eastern shore on Thursday night.
