A man has been arrested after a pursuit in the western suburbs.

Police will allege that about 12.05am today (Friday 3 January) a patrol saw a silver Holden sedan driving erratically on William Street in West Croydon.

Police attempted to stop the car, but it sped off and crashed nearby at the intersection of William and Brown Streets.

Officers used capsicum spray to assist the arrest of the suspect.

The 31-year-old Novar Gardens man was charged with driving dangerously to escape a police pursuit, failing to provide details about a crash and resist police.
