Police arrest man after spending 13 hours on St Albans roof after carjacking

Police have arrested a man following an incident in St Albans overnight.

A man climbed onto the roof of a house in Ivanhoe Street and remained there for more than 13 hours following an alleged carjacking.

Police were told a man was stationary on his motorcycle at the intersection of Ballarat Road and Duke Road in Sunshine when an unknown man approached him just after 5pm on Thursday, 10 June.

It is alleged the man assaulted the rider before stealing the motorcycle.

Police were later called to the St Albans residence where the man had climbed onto the roof about 6.15pm.

The residents of the home were safely evacuated.

The man jumped across a number of roofs throughout the night but after lengthy negotiations he climbed down a ladder on his own volition and was arrested.

The 36-year-old St Albans man has been taken to hospital under police guard.
