Police arrest man after stealing car, South Australia

Police have arrested a man after he stole a car from Somerton Park early this morning.

About 4.45am on Tuesday 4 February, police were called to Brye Avenue after a victim reported having his silver Holden Captiva stolen. He saw his car being driven away, heading north on Brighton Road.

Southern District patrols quickly set up cordons and PolAir (police helicopter) was called to in to assist with the pursuit. The stolen car was tracked through Plympton Park, Marion and finally coming to a stop at Reade Lane, Marleston.

The driver of the car fled into a block of nearby units on Major Avenue where he jumped on top of roofs of homes until he entered the rear yard of a property and was swiftly apprehended by PD Nero.

The suspect, a 42-year-old man of no fixed address, was arrested without further incident. He was charged with engage in a police pursuit, carrying a prohibited weapon and resist police.

He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.
