Police arrest man at Burton after pursuit, South Australia

A man has been arrested after a pursuit with a stolen car through the northern suburbs tonight.

Just before 8pm on Thursday 19 December, police received a call from a member of the public advising there was a car driving erratically in a shopping centre car park at Munno Para.

Patrols quickly attended and located the stolen blue BMW sedan. The vehicle was followed by police before the patrol lost sight of the car at Gawler.

The car was spotted a short time later heading south on Main North Road. The police helicopter (PolAir) took over the pursuit and followed the vehicle along Curtis Road and the Northern Expressway to Paralowie.

Patrols successfully spiked the vehicle on Martins Road at Paralowie. The car continued travelling on Martins Road before crashing at Waterloo Corner Road at Burton.

The driver ran from the car and jumped a fence into the rear of a home where he was arrested without incident by Northern District patrols.

The vehicle was stolen from the driveway of a home at Virginia in the early afternoon.

The driver, a 42-year-old man from Paralowie, was taken to Lyell McEwin Hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries. He is expected to be charged with illegal use and driving dangerously to escape a police pursuit.
