Police have arrested and charged a 51-year-old Rye man after an incident in Frankston last night.
Officers were patrolling Frankston-Flinders Road about 9.30pm when they noticed a speeding car.
The Air Wing was called in and followed the vehicle to an address in High Street, Frankston where the male driver and female passenger dumped the car and ran.
Officers gave chase on foot and manage to arrest the pair nearby.
A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a loaded handgun in a bag on the back seat.
The woman was released pending further enquires and the man was taken for interview.
He has been charged with firearms and driving offences and has been bailed to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on 1 July 2022.
