Police arrest man for petrol thefts, South Australia

A man was arrested last night for a series of petrol thefts and driving offences.

It will be alleged the man filled up his car and drove off without paying at several petrol stations across the Port Adelaide area since May.

On each occasion, the distinctive white Subaru SUV displayed stolen plates.

About 9.30pm last night, Thursday 7 July, a patrol spotted a similar vehicle at a Port Adelaide petrol station. On closer inspection, the vehicle had its correct number plate attached with an occy strap and the driver had a close resemblance to the suspect caught on CCTV.

The 50-year-old Port Adelaide man was arrested and charged with five counts of making off without payment, five counts of driving unlicensed, five counts of driving with unassigned plates and failing to truly answer questions.

It will be alleged that police located and seized the stolen plates used in the crime series.

He was bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on 28 July. His car was impounded for 28 days.
