Police arrest man for stealing delivery truck, South Australia

A man was arrested at Newton last night after allegedly stealing a delivery truck.

Police were called to the carpark of the Newton Central Shopping Centre, Gorge Road, Newton just before 11.30pm on Tuesday 19 April by a report that a delivery truck was driving through the carpark with all the doors open and items falling out the back.

The owner of the truck arrived to say it had just been stolen while he was making deliveries at a nearby service station.

The truck was abandoned behind the shops and the suspect ran off.

Witnesses gave updates on his location to the attending patrols and PolAir.

PolAir tracked the suspect from the shopping centre, south, along Newton Road, into Andrea Court and on to Essex Street. He was allegedly found in a driveway hiding behind a bus.

The 33-year-old Campbelltown man was arrested and charged with illegal use, driving while disqualified, unlawfully on premises, unlawful possession and drink driving, with a blood alcohol reading of 0.079.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
