Police arrest seven after south eastern crime spree

Air Wing and uniform officers were instrumental in locating and arresting seven people in linked offending overnight.

Investigators responded to reports of a silver BMW X5 and a red MG Hatch suspiciously parked in a Cheltenham Road carpark in Keysborough about 9.50pm on 10 July.

Air Wing officers, who were overhead at the time, observed the vehicles take off in different directions.

It is believed that the MG Hatch was allegedly stolen from a Clarendon Street residence in Thornbury on 5 July, while the BMW X5 was allegedly stolen from Railway Parade, Briar Hill on 4 July.

Air Wing followed the MG Hatch to Thames Promenade in Chelsea Heights, where a cordon was successfully set-up by officers on the ground.

After pulling the MG hatch over, officers swiftly arrested two teenagers and a woman while a fourth teen attempted to flee.

With assistance from the Dog Squad, the fourth teenager was arrested on the corner of Thames and Third Avenue shortly after.

Meanwhile, the BMW X5 was followed by Air Wing through Moorabbin to Prahran, where officers in the air observed the vehicle being dumped on Dandenong Road about 10.15pm.

Officers from the Dog Squad observed three teenagers enter a licenced premises nearby, before successfully arresting the trio.

Five teenagers, two aged 17, two aged 15 and a 16-year-old are assisting police with their enquiries.

Two women aged 18 and 21 are also assisting police with their enquiries.
