Police arrest two after motorcylist killed by stolen car

Hume Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested two women in Jacana this evening following an armed robbery in Coolaroo and a fatal collision in Melbourne’s CBD.

The two women are alleged to have produced an edged weapon and threatened the victim, a 45-year-old Caroline Springs man, before stealing his dark grey Honda Civic sedan, cash and a mobile phone from an address on Paisley Road, Coolaroo around 3pm.

Police spotted the stolen car about 6.35pm in Meadow Heights and attempted to intercept it.

The stolen car sped off and was followed at a distance by the Police Airwing through the northern suburbs, then into the Melbourne CBD.

It is alleged the stolen Honda struck a motorcyclist and a pedestrian at the intersection of King Street and Latrobe Street just before 7pm.

The yet to be identified motorcyclist received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he tragically died.

The pedestrian, a 58-year-old Maidstone man, received minor injuries and was transported to hospital.

The stolen car continued to drive in a dangerous manner back through the western and northern suburbs and was intercepted by police at the intersection of Emu Parade and Gavin Street, Jacana around 7.20pm.

A 20-year-old Broadmeadows woman and a 35-year-old woman of no-fixed-address were arrested at the scene.

Both women received minor injuries and are currently under police guard in hospital.

The Major Collision Unit are on scene.

Professional Standards Command will oversee the investigation.
