Police arrest two after ride-share driver assaulted, robbed in Stanmore

Two men have been arrested after a ride-share driver was allegedly assaulted and robbed at Stanmore this morning.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command were called to the intersection of Parramatta Road and Bridge Street about 1.15am (Saturday 15 August 2020).

They were told two passengers in a ride-share Camry allegedly hit the driver and stole cash before running from the vehicle.

Several men, including an off-duty police officer, intervened and the passengers were tackled and held till police arrived.

Two men both aged 26, one from Surry Hills and the other from Sydney, were arrested and have been taken to Newtown Police Station where they are speaking with detectives.

The driver, a 24-year-old man from Hurstville, was not injured.
