Police arrest two at Lower Mitcham, South Australia

A man and woman have been arrested after they allegedly broke into a house under construction at Lower Mitcham overnight.

Just after midnight on Thursday 14 May, Southern District police were called to Catherine Street, after local residents reported seeing torchlight coming from a newly built vacant home in the street.

On patrols, arrival they set up cordons in the street and called in a police dog patrol to assist in the search of the house.

A quick forage of the house by PD Stoic, which had the front door kicked in, found a man and woman hiding in the rear of the premises.

The 27-year-old man from Croydon and the 19-year-old woman from Mitcham were both arrested and charged with property damage, being on premises for an unlawful reason and carrying graffiti implements, after they were found in possession of spray paint cans and textas.

The arrested couple have been bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

The two arrests are a great example of vigilant neighbours seeing something suspicious and rightly reporting the matter immediately by calling the police who have taken swift action.
