Police arrest two men after firearm recovered in Reservoir

Darebin Crime Investigation Unit have arrested two men after a firearm was recovered in Reservoir this morning.

Officers were patrolling Spring Street when they noticed a silver Holden sedan with alleged false plates about 1.30am.

The car sped off from police before it was located on Gilbert Road by the Air Wing a short time later.

Police successfully deployed stop sticks on Broadway Parade before the car continued travelling on its rims.

It is alleged the passenger got out of the car and disposed of an item before being arrested by police.

A subsequent search by police located a rifle.

The driver was also arrested by police after the car was abandoned in Jelf court in Fawkner.

A 37-year-old Broadmeadows man has been charged with possessing a firearm, dangerous driving and other associated driving matters.

An application will be made for him to be remanded into custody and he will appear at Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court later today.

A 27-year-old Long Gully man has been released, pending further enquiries.
