Police arrests eight youths after stolen car crashes in Mount Cottrell

Police have arrested eight youths after a stolen car crashed in Mount Cottrell this afternoon.

An off-duty protective service officer observed a black Mazda CX-9 bearing plates ZLK 749 speeding and driving dangerously in Truganina around 10am.

Local police responded and located the speeding car in Tarneit and quickly established it was stolen.

A short pursuit ensued before the driver of the stolen car lost control and crashed into a barrier on Boundary Road, Mount Cottrell about 9.50am.

Eight youths exited from the car and fled on foot but were arrested by police a short time later.

Uniform members, Highway Patrol officers and Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives assisted with the arrest.

The youths, aged between 14 and 17-year-old, remain in custody and are being interviewed by police.

Police are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the car driving dangerously in the Truganina and Tarneit areas and urge anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.
