Police ask for patience on roads as power is restored in State, South Australia

Following yesterday’s severe weather event across South Australia, police today issued a plea for the community to be patient and to take care on the roads.

SA Power Networks advised that falling trees, lightning strikes and high winds resulted in widespread outages across the State. Due to the large number of faults, rebuilding and repairing the network, and restoring power will continue potentially well into Tuesday.

As a result, traffic lights remain out at a number of major intersections across Adelaide and will greatly impact motorists tomorrow, particularly during peak-hour travel times. The community are asked to be patient while driving and to leave for their destinations earlier than usual to prepare for these expected delays.

Police urge motorists to slow down, drive to the conditions, never drive or ride through floodwaters and obey the directions of emergency services personnel.

Localised flooding and road damage has also been reported with many roads closed in both metro and regional areas. Please visit https://www.traffic.sa.gov.au/ for updates regarding road closures.

If you need the State Emergency Service to assist with flood or storm damage please call 132 500 – only call Triple Zero (000) for life threatening emergencies. Visit https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/about-us/sases-resources/ for advice on storm and floods.

Please check on vulnerable family members, neighbours, and people in your community to ensure they are safe.

The public are also urged to stay away from fallen powerlines – they should be reported to SA Power Networks on 13 13 66. Stay up to date here – https://outage.apps.sapowernetworks.com.au/OutageReport/OutageMap
