Three new probationary constables have commenced duties in Dubbo and Wellington after 159 new officers attested at a formal ceremony at the Goulburn Police Academy.
Nationals’ Leader and Member for Dubbo, Dugald Saunders, welcomed Probationary Constables Smith and Inskip to Dubbo Police Station and Probationary Constable McDonald to Wellington Police Station.
“Being a police officer is a challenging job at the best of times, and in recent years they’ve really gone above and beyond in service of their communities,” Mr Saunders said.
“I am delighted to welcome our newest police officers to Dubbo and Wellington, and commend them for choosing to serve our communities.
“For these probationary constables, Monday marked day one of a challenging and rewarding career keeping our communities safe.
“Policing is like no other profession; it is a selfless career where officers run towards danger to protect us and the wider community rather than the natural instinct to run in the opposite direction.
“We all thank them for this service and their commitment to the people of NSW.”
The recruits will complete 12 months’ on-the-job training and study by distance education with Charles Sturt University.
Once they’ve passed all academic and operation standards, they will officially graduate with an Associate Degree in Policing Practice.
The officers will then be confirmed to the rank of constable.
