Police charge Christmas decoration thief

Fawkner Embona Taskforce detectives have charged a man following an attempted armed robbery and theft in Fawkner last week.

The attempted armed robbery occurred on Bonwick Street on 30 December about 3:30am.

It is alleged the man approached a 37-year-old man and made demands for cash.

The victim was able to get into his car and drive away unharmed.

It is alleged the man later entered a property on Major Road and stole two large inflatable Santas and three Christmas character statues from the front lawn around 6am.

Police executed a search warrant this morning at a Fawkner property and located the allegedly stolen Christmas decorations and other property believed to be stolen.

The 38-year-old man was charged with attempted armed robbery, criminal damage, theft, wilful trespass, handle stolen goods and commit an indictable offence whilst on bail.

He was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
