Police charge driver over fatal crash – Normanhurst

A man will face court today following a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Sydney’s Upper North Shore yesterday.

About 11.45am (Tuesday 10 October 2023), emergency services were called to Pennant Hills Road, Normanhurst, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

On arrival, officers from Kuring-Gai Police Area Command found a Ford Ranger utility, a Triumph motorcycle, and three other cars – a Toyota Landcruiser, a Lexus and a Kia Carnival – had collided.

The Ford and the motorcycle then crashed into a nearby house and caught fire. The blaze was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW.

The motorcycle rider – a 59-year-old man – died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

The Ford driver, a 36-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established, with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commencing an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The man was later escorted to Hornsby Police Station where he was charged with 5 offences being:

  • dangerous driving occasioning death- drive manner dangerous,
  • negligent driving (occasioning death),
  • two counts of cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle, and
  • and not stop at stop line at red light (not toll booth).

He was refused bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court today (Wednesday 11 October 2023).
