A man has been charged following a 160km pursuit through the State’s Far West overnight.
Officers attached to Barrier Police District were conducting roadside breath testing on Menindee Road, Broken Hill, about 10pm (Saturday 4 April 2026), when they directed a sedan to stop.
Police will allege the driver ignored the direction and a pursuit was initiated onto the Barrier Highway, with the vehicle reaching speeds of up to 180km/h in a designated 110km/h zone.
The vehicle drove for a further 160km before road spikes were deployed by Wilcannia Police. The sedan slowed over 5km and stopped before the driver allegedly ran into bush.
A search was conducted, and a 32-year-old man was arrested a short time later.
When the vehicle was checked police found a 34-year-old woman, a 14-year-old girl, and a seven-month-old girl inside. They were unhurt.
The man was taken to Broken Hill Police Station where he was charged with three offences,
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic)
He has been refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 4 today (Sunday 5 April 2026).
