Police charge man after assault and robbery in Ballarat

Police have charged a 25-year-old man after a woman was allegedly robbed and assaulted in Ballarat this morning.

The victim, a 56-year-old Ballarat woman, was walking to work on Drummond St around 5.50am.

It is alleged a man approached the victim and dragged her across Webster Street before attempting to steal her jewellery.

The woman was allegedly assaulted to the head, then the man ran from the scene with one of her shoes.

The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A man was arrested nearby a short time later.

A Sunshine West man was charged with robbery, recklessly cause injury, assaulting an emergency worker, and state false name.

He was bailed to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on 16 June 2022.
