Police charge man after assaulting ride-share driver in Yagoona

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a ride-share driver in Sydney’s south-west overnight.

Police will allege the 25-year-old passenger was being dropped off at a home on Dutton Street, Yagoona, when he punched the driver – a 48-year-old-man – and demanded his phone, about 12.15am (Sunday 20 September 2020).

Both men exited the car, before the passenger allegedly pushed the driver to the ground and continued to punch him.

The driver then returned to the car and drove away before police were notified.

He suffered cuts and bruising to his head, face and body and was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

Following inquiries, officers from Bankstown Police Area Command arrested the 25-year-old at the scene.

The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with aggravated assault with intent to rob and inflict actual bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court today.
