Police charge man after Broadmeadows pursuit

Hume Crime Investigation Unit have charged a man following a pursuit in Broadmeadows yesterday morning.

Police observed a vehicle on Smiley Road about 1.20am on Wednesday, 20 July, which was allegedly involved in the ramming of a police vehicle on 9 July.

The male driver sped off and was followed by police on the ground with the assistance of the Air Wing through the Broadmeadows and Dallas areas.

It is alleged the driver returned to Smiley Road, discarded the vehicle then fled the scene in another car.

The car was intercepted by police on Widford Street in Broadmeadows around 3.25am, where the male driver and female passenger were arrested.

A 35-year-old Broadmeadows man has been charged with aggravated intentional exposure of a police officer to risk by driving, damage to an emergency service vehicle by reckless driving, assaulting a police officer, dangerous driving while being pursued by police and reckless conduct endanger life.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

A 31-year-old Altona woman was released pending further enquiries.
