Police Charge Man After Brunswick West Hit-run

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 31-year-old man following an alleged hit-run collision in Brunswick yesterday morning.

Three cars collided at the intersection of Melville Road and Albion Street just after 10am.

One of the drivers, a 49-year-old Brunswick woman, was trapped inside her Honda Accord for a short time before being taken to hospital where she remains with life-threatening-injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 34-year-old Strathmore woman, wasn’t injured.

The driver of the third vehicle, a Toyota Crown, allegedly ran from the scene and was apprehended by members of the public nearby.

The Laverton man was transported to hospital under police guard and was released this morning.

He was charged with dangerous driving cause serious injury, reckless driving cause serious injury, fail to render assistance, fail to stop at the scene of an accident and other traffic-related offences.

He appeared before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this evening and will reappear tomorrow.
