Police charge man after carjacking and assault in Horsham

Police have charged a 24-year-old Horsham man following an alleged assault and carjacking which occurred in Horsham on Friday 30 August.

It is understood the victim, a 32-year-old man, was driving with a male passenger in a red 2019 Nissan X-Trail on Dimboola Road about 11.30pm.

It is alleged the passenger, who was armed with a knife, assaulted the victim who then jumped out of the car.

The offender then allegedly got into the driver’s seat and fled in the vehicle.

The victim sustained non-life injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.

Police arrested the Ballarat man about 9am yesterday in Gardinia Street, Horsham.

He has been charged with various assault, theft and weapons charges including attempted murder, aggravated carjacking and armed robbery.

He has been remanded to appear before Horsham Magistrates’ Court on 11 December.
