Police charge man after death of infant – Werribee

Detectives from the Homicide Squad have today charged a man following the death of an infant boy in Werribee last month.

Paramedics were called to reports of an unresponsive baby at a property about 4am on 19 January.

The infant boy was then transported to hospital.

He was subsequently assessed as having significant assault-related injuries.

Sadly, the child passed away at hospital the following morning.

Police were then contacted and the death was determined to be suspicious following the results of a post mortem.

A 29-year-old Hillside man was charged today by Homicide Squad detectives with murder and child homicide.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

While the parties involved in the incident are known to each other, the man is not the biological father of the child.
