Police charge man after fatal pedestrian crash in Ashfield

A man has been charged after a fatal pedestrian crash in Sydney’s inner west earlier this month.

About 3.20pm on Sunday 13 March 2022, emergency services responded to reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a dual cap four-wheel drive at the intersection of Frederick and John streets, Ashfield.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man; however, he died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle – a 48-year-old woman – was not injured and was taken to Canterbury Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Following extensive inquiries, on Saturday 26 March 2022, the driver was issued a court attendance notice and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), and not give way to pedestrian on crossing – motor vehicle.

The woman, from Picnic Point, will appear before Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 24 May 2022.
