Police charge man after Norlane carjacking

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have charged a man this afternoon following a carjacking in Norlane last week.

A 37-year-old Norlane man has been charged with aggravated carjacking, prohibited person possess firearm, common law assault, drive whilst disqualified, two counts of assault police and conduct endangering life.

The man remains in hospital under police guard.

The matter will be heard tomorrow at Geelong Magistrates’ Court in his absence.

The charges follow an incident on Friday 17 February, when police received a report of a carjacking in in Iona Street about 3.50pm.

A man in his 70s was threatened with a firearm and pulled from his vehicle, before the 37-year-old Norlane man allegedly drove off in the Holden Commodore and police were notified.

It’s alleged the stolen car was found in Warrawee Avenue about 4.25pm.

Officers approached and were confronted by a man with a firearm who was subsequently shot by police.
