Police charge man after police assaulted in Collaroy

A man has been charged after three police officers were allegedly assaulted during an incident at Collaroy last week.

About 7.30am on Wednesday 13 May 2020, officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command attended Ramsey Street following reports about a man behaving erratically.

Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics attempted to negotiate with the man to enter the ambulance as he required medical assistance.

Five officers were required to assist ambulance staff, however the man violently resisted.

While attempting to subdue him, it is alleged a constable was bitten on the shoulder while another suffered scratches.

The man was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for assessment and the officers were treated at the scene for their injuries.

Yesterday (Monday 18 May 2020), the 20-year-old man was arrested and taken to Manly Police Station. He was charged with assault police causing actual bodily harm (x2) and assault police.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear in Parramatta Local Court via video link today (Tuesday 19 May 2020).
